Objectives: To learn about how Macao residents receive information concerning the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the level of anxiety about being infected, and the level of confidence in anti-epidemic prevention in response to COVID-19 as well as to explore the impact of epidemic information on the psychological status of Macao residents in anti-epidemic prevention. Method: An online survey was conducted with 3,236 Macao residents from February 6 to 14, 2020. Results: Respondents paid great attention to COVID-19 epidemic information and many of them kept an eye on the information released by the government. Most of them thought that the information from the government was helpful to them. Effective access to information can increase the confidence of residents in anti-epidemic prevention in Macao, but excessive focus on information will make residents more worried about the risk of infection, which is more likely to have a negative impact on their psychological status in anti-epidemic prevention. Conclusion: There are both positive and negative impacts of COVID-19-related information on the psychological status of the respondents. Residents should pay reasonable attention to epidemic information and relax properly in order to tackle the epidemic in a more positive manner.
