This paper planned that passes through the book of Shuo Wen Jie Zi (《說文解字》), the cultural background of Shan and Zhou Dynasties, and ancient document investigation, analysis primitive significance of Xiao (孝). The first meaning of Xiao is inheritance. The other meanings are sacrifices and following ancestors. Provided for the parents is afterward meaning in the medium period of Spring and Autumn.
