Stress and Health of the Patient Care Providers in Psychiatric Hospitals

精神專科醫院護理服務人員之壓力與健康研究

並列摘要

Providing care to the mentally-ill patients, nurses were more likely affected by the hospital atmosphere than those in general hospitals. The purpose of this research was to investigate the nurses' stress and associated health specific to the psychiatric hospitals. Samples were purposively selected from the nursing staff of two psychiatry hospitals. Instrument adopted to collect information were Short Form-36 (SF-36) for self-perceived health status, and the Nursing Staffs Pressure Scale for the perceived job stresses. The data were gathered between August 1st, 2010 and September 30th 2010. There were 251 questionnaires dispatched, and 202 returned with a response rate of 80.5%. The research results revealed several important messages. 1. The job stress and perceived health status were not significant different between nurses. 2. The job stress perceived by a nurse significantly varies from one nurse to another in terms of age and job position. 3. The levels of self-perceived health status, both physical and mental, significantly vary from one nurse to another in terms of job unit, seniority, marital status, and children number. 4. The job stress negatively correlated with the physical-mental health status. This paper discussed the academic and managerial implication at the end of the paper.
