The study investigated the physical and psychological impacts of absence from work for hospitalized rotator cuff repair procedures on a male porter (with 30 years of working experience in combination with cardiovascular risks) who suffered from rotator cuff tear due to work overload. The subject was admitted from August 25 to 29, 2022, and participated in follow-up visits on September 22 and October 6 in the same year, respectively. The authors used the Gordon 11 Functional Health Patterns, physical evaluations, observations, interviews and medical record reviews to collect data and determine physical disabilities, anxiety, and invalid health maintenance abilities. Then study members connected to multidisciplinary teams based on Jean Watson's theory of human caring, involved the subject's family members in his medical care, worked with the rehab team to develop recovery programs, performed home-based healthcare and assessment for resuming work to facilitate the subject's physical and psychological recovery, help him achieve occupational goals and claim compensations for occupational hazards from labor insurance, and further relieve financial stress. The ultimate objectives of the study are to provide individualized health maintenance measures, apply adequate diet plans and exercise programs, prevent from cardiovascular risks, supply with guidance on workplace safety, and help the subject resume working as soon as possible.
