University students are sometimes confused at the meaning of existence and the uncertainty of life. This study aims to guide students to contemplate the issues of life and develop their positive views on life by offering a course called: Cognizance, Respect, and Actualization of Life at General Education Center. It’s a one-credit course offered every second week, for two hours and nine times a semester. It only offers to the freshmen of Tzu Chi University. The instruction methods for this course include giving speeches, assigning books to read, watching movies and having group discussions. The efficiency of this course was examined by the students’ topic discussion feedback, questionnaires of satisfaction and teachers’ self-examination feedback. After taking this course, most students began to think about the meaning and revalue their life, and they also learned to listen to other’s talk and express their own viewpoints appropriately in public.
