In athletics, an athlete plays the most important role in a competition. So the behavior of an athlete is critical in producing top results. How can we improve the overall performance of an athlete? Apart from physiology, we still need to consider how important a role psychology plays in the performance of an athlete. Through the analysis and the discussion of need theory, leisure constraints, and motivation theory, this study collects strategies for motivating an athlete to have excellent behaviors. The findings will be offered to sports associations to increase the performance of their own athletes.
