Survey of Published Papers Concerning Biopsychosocial Model

摘要

There has been more than three decades since Engel addressed the concept of biopsychosocial (BPS) model. There was no survey of the published papers concerning biopsychosocial model. The aim of the present study was to investigate the published papers contained biopsychosocial model in the title in 30 years. We used EndNote X2 with PubMed as the web search engine for non-Chinese papers and used the keyword ”biopsychosocial”. We restricted the papers with years, medical specialties and journal titles. The Chinese Electronic Periodical Service (CEPS) with Boolean inquiring for the Chinese papers before July 2009were searched. The keywords were ”biopsychosocial” and ”psychosocial”. We restricted the papers with title containing BPS and published site with or without Taiwan. SPSS17.0 software was utilized for data analyses. The results showed that there were 612 non-Chinese papers since 1951 to July 2009. Psychiatric and family associated journals contained 197 papers (32.2%), 24 papers (3.9%) respectively. The mean yearly published papers of 1980-1989, 1990-1999 and 2000-2009 were 13.1, 17.1 and 29.3, and the third ten-year reached a significant difference compared with the first and the second ten-year periods (p<0.001). There were 6 published papers contained BPS and 66 papers with psychosocial in the title in Taiwan. Among the 66 papers, nursing associated journals contained 23(34.8%). After searching and sorting the BPS papers, this study can offer reference in researching and writing about BPS. Medical associations should encourage studies in this field by using BPS or psychosocial as titles so as to offer reference for postgraduate year 1 residents and other health professionals about holistic healthcare training and clinical applications.
