When COVID-19 outbroke in early 2020, our unit was assigned to transform into a dedicated isolation ward again. However, only 28.6% of nursing staff were willing to provide nursing care. Therefore, a task force was set up to exploit and improve the condition. After analyzing the current situation, the problems were established: (1) insufficiency of understanding on COVID-19 disease; (2) lack of care standards related to COVID-19 disease; (3) worried the deficiency of epidemic prevention materials and types of equipment; (4) lack of experience in caring for COVID-19 disease; (5) unclear about the ward epidemic prevention safety plan and moving line. The implementation of the improvement strategy focuses on organizing continuing education, training, and auditing of wearing and removing protective equipment. Also, COVID-19 care standard operating protocol, real-name registration for material management, open and transparency information, follow-up employee care, visualizable ward movement lines were implemented. After implementing the project, the willingness of nursing staff to care for COVID-19 patients increased from 28.6% to 85.7%, and we extended this experience to other special wards in the second dedicated isolation ward parallelly to improve the safety of the staff and the quality of care.
