From 1948 to 2008, 16 Olympic Games have been held. The hosting countries won 0 to 49 gold metals in the previous game, and the average is 12.9 gold metals. The number varies more widely in counting the hosting countries' gold metals in the hosting game-from 0 to 83, and the average is 23.3 golds. As comparing the hosting counties' performance in the previous and the hosting games, the statistics show a range from 2 golds less to 49 golds more, and the average number is 10.4 golds more. Eliminating the top 3 and the lowest 3 records, we have the average number of 6.9 golds more. In gold metal ranking, some of the hosting countries stepped 2 places backward and some 24 places forward. Every hosting countries has its unique features and background.
