The book ”Family Rules” (Домострой) was collected in the 16th-century, which has been regarded as familial apothegm in traditional Russian society. This advised dogma was full of ideological morals which constrained the whole family how to serve God, be obedient to the head of family, how to raise and teach children, how wives dress up to receive guests, and some other trivia such as how servants store food for winter. In this essay, the role and social status of Russian women and the ideal image of women in ”Family Rules” will be discussed from a female point of view.
