The main purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between safety climate and safety performance in organizations. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among employees who frequent the labs within 100 universities and colleges in Taiwan in 2002. The number of respondent was 780, and response rate was 78.00%. Pearson correlation and Canonical correlation analysis showed that there is a significant positive correlation between safety climate and safety performance. And stepwise regression analysis demonstrated that the top management's safety commitment and actions is the most significant predictor of safety performance. This result doesn't support the findings of Wu (2001), Wang (2002) and Wu & Su (2002). Evidently, the best predictor of safety performance depends on the organizational property.
