清代臺灣漢文化區域的構成-歷史向度下西螺地方性的詮釋

The Formation of the Chinese Cultural District in Taiwan during the Ching Dynasty-The Historical Interpretation of Hsi-Lo's Placeness

摘要


本文依人文主義地理學(Humanistic Geography)的研究取向,以歷史文獻作為詮釋的文本,並且經由田野實察的檢證,透過「歷史的詮釋」以呈顯歷史脈絡下西螺地方的構成,以及其區域地表的人文現象與文化景觀所彰顯的地方性與鄉土性。論述之脈絡包含:1、拓墾初期透過水利設施的興築奠立農業墾殖的基礎,而建立起漢文化基礎的農業社會;2、經由建庄、立街、設保而形成地方中地;3、由地方大廟、宗廟祠堂以及書院的創建而貞定文治型社會的創生。本文所詮釋的清代西螺地方構成的內涵,正呈顯出清代一個臺灣漢文區域的構成,也就是由移墾社會轉化為文治社會,並且將漢文化傳統落實到臺灣鄉土的歷程。因此,本文最後以文化三層體之概念詮釋漢文化區域構成的地方性,亦即透過社會制度層的建立,以及行為系統的運作,將漢文化傳統之價值實踐於西螺地方,並且形塑了清代西螺、地方的重要人文地景。

This article applies the historical interpretation method of Humanistic Geography approach to interpret the formation of the His-Lo place during the Ching Dynasty by fieldworks and historical texts. This article is divided into three main parts to discuss the His-Lo's historical placeness. In the period of early development, the Chinese settlers engaged in land settlement, building irrigation systems and building a stable agricultural society based on the Chinese culture. And then they built the community, central commercial street and the settlement. In the period of civilization, the dwellers in His-Lo place built a cultural society through the erection of traditional cultural landscape including village temples, schools and family altars and temples.The interpretation of the His-Lo's local characteristics in this article just shows the formation of the Chinese cultural district in Taiwan during the Ching dynasty. Therefore this article uses the cultural concept of three-dimensional cube to analyze the placeness of the His-Lo place. And we can find that the formation of the Chinese cultural district in Taiwan during the Ching dynasty through the central mentifact, the sociofacts and the artifacts.
