Professors' and Practitioners' Views on Workplace Competencies: Importance and Performance

學界與業界對職場能力之看法:工作能力之重要性與實際表現

摘要


現今學校教育與業界之間的技能鴻溝,已成為當前台灣社會重要的議題。重新檢視職場對技能的需求是必需的。本研究為量化比較研究,目的為探討台灣商業科系教師與商業經理人對於商業科系畢業生工作能力的重要性與實際表現之認知差異。研究工具來自Hodges & Burchell(2003)的問卷,經部分修改、測試後寄發給402位來白台中市7所大專院校的商業科系教師及550位來自台中市不同商業組織的商業經理人。問卷分析採用t考驗(t-test)。研究結果顯示商業科系教師與商業經理人皆認為「學習意願」及「解決問題能力」為最重要的工作技能。而以整體來看,商業科系教師與商業經理人對畢業生所應具備之重要工作技能及畢業生實際工作能力表現有認知上的差異,顯示出學校教育與業界需求確實有落差。本研究結果也建議雇主、學校及學生三方都有責任改善目前的學校教育與業界之間的技能鴻溝。

The skill gaps between education and employment have become an increasingly relevant issue in Taiwanese society. The solution to this problem requires a reexamination of the different perceptions of workplace competencies demanded of graduates. Through a quantitative comparative study, the researchers compared the differences between Taiwanese business teachers and business managers in their perceptions of the importance of competencies for business graduates entering the workplace and of the graduates' actual performance of those competencies. A survey questionnaire adapted from the research tool used in studies by Hodges and Burchell (2003) was administered to 402 business teachers of seven 4-year colleges, institutes of technology, and universities, and to 550 managers of business organizations in Taichung city, Taiwan. The independent-samples and paired-simples t-tests were used to identify the differences between the participant groups. The findings revealed that Taiwanese business teachers and managers strongly adhered to the perception that staying capable in a world of change requires a willingness to learn and problem solving skills. Overall, there were industry-education gaps in business graduate competency levels between what the teachers and managers found important and whether graduates were able to perform their job by applying the knowledge and skills learned from school in workplaces. The findings from this study suggest that employers, educators, and graduates all have responsibilities to improve the gaps between the workplace and the classroom.
