Chronic Gastritis belongs to epigastric pain in TCM with typical symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, nausea and distention which caused by blockage of stomach motor function. Ulcers-like symptoms might occur occasionally. The symptoms are prone to be repetitive. A male patient has repetitive stomach pain for several years. He has been taking Western medication after being examined by gastric endoscope. Starting in January 1997, He experienced prominent bitter taste when getting up in the morning, distending pain that aggravates after meals, poor appetite, tender in epigastric region, cold pain and persistent diarrhea, and came to the TCM department of the hospital for treatment. The patient’s symptoms are relieved after treatment based on warming the middle jiao and dispersing the cold, strengthening the spleen qi, and soothing liver to facilitate gall bladder. The patient didn’t have recurrent symptoms and has regular diet and bowel movement when followed up with phone 3 months later.
