The purpose of the current study was to investigate the changes of burnout during different training seasons of taekwondo athletes. Gender differences and the relations between weekly training hours and burnout were also examined. Revised Chinese Eades Athlete Burnout Inventory was utilized on first level collegiate taekwondo athletes in Taiwan. Data from 52 participants were analyzed by mixed two-way MANOVA and Pearson correlation analyses. Results revealed that emotional and physical exhaustion changed across different training seasons; athletes perceived a higher level of burnout from sentiment and tiredness of participating in training during preparation season than game season. No gender differences on weekly training hours and burnout were found, and no difference on weekly training hours between preparation season and game season was found. No significant correlations were found between burnout and training hours during preparation season and game season. Findings on the changes of burnout in first level collegiate taekwondo athletes from the current study could be applied by coaches for preventing and managing athletic burnout.
