This case study describes the nursing experience when applying Watson's caring theory of a caregiver whose husband suffered from brain stroke and stayed 3 weeks in an Intensive Care Unit. The caregiver's major nursing problems were anxiety, knowledge deficit and stress. Based on Watson's caring theory, the individualized nursing interventions, included teaching the caregiver of disease process and patient care skills, empowering caregiver's role and functions in decision making, and reducing the caregiver's anxiety and stress. The caregiver was able to demonstrate confidence and competence while participating in the patient care.
