This article describes factors involved in current elder-care issues and recommendations. Advancement in medicine prolonged life expectancy. Increased aging population and reduced childbirth changed the structure of society. Family structure moves from traditional Chinese three-generation family to a two or single generation family. These changes limit interactions between young and elders in the family and therefore affect intergenerational care among elder parents, young adults and grandchildren. Primary care providers for elders may shift from family members to hired help. Care and demands for the increased home-bound elder residents is a major concern of society.
