書目紀錄加值對目錄使用者辨識與選擇行爲影響之研究

摘要


圖書館編製的目錄為館藏查詢的重要工具,傳統上標準化的書目紀錄僅提供館藏的基本特性供查檢。然而多數的使用者皆期待圖書館的書目紀錄能增加內容資訊,例如:目次。本研究透過觀察與訪談法瞭解線上目錄使用者如何使用書目紀錄中加值的著錄項目,其優先順序為何;加值後的強化紀錄如何影響使用者辨識與選擇所需資源之行為;目錄使用者對於書目加值的整體看法為何? 研究結果顯示在特定的情境下,受訪者會參雜一般及加值的著錄項目協助其選擇與辨識所需資源。同時在不同階段因受訪者所獲得的資訊多寡不一,會不斷修正其資訊需求,由模糊不清到明確,由不確定到瞭解,充分驗證了資訊尋求行為理論。此外,雖然不同的資訊需求情境與系統的介面設計皆會影響加值項目的參考順序,但使用者對於書目加值都持肯定與正面之態度,且強力建議圖書館應該進行此項工作。本研究中使用者對於書目加值項目的需求程度,依序為「目次」(table of contents)、「內容簡介」(content synopsis)、「部分內容」(excerpted content)、「封面」(book cover)及「作者簡介」(about the author)。建議圖書館可視人力與經費狀況決定書目加值的資源類型與項目的優先次序。

An online catalog is the most important tool for seeking information about a library's collection. Traditionally, standard catalog records have provided bibliographic data about the basic features of library resources. Users expect the library catalog to be capable of providing more information such as a table of contents. This study utilizes observation and interview to explore the way in which online catalog users make use of the enhanced elements, and their priority when selecting the records. The study also analyses the impact of enhanced records on users in terms of identification and selection of needed resources, and users' overall opinion on value-added catalog. The results show that in certain circumstances, interviewees tend to mix general (such as title, publication year etc.) and enhanced bibliographic elements to assist in their selection and identification of needed resources. The result also shows that the information needs to be changed during the seeking process. Thus the process fully validates the theory of information-seeking behavior. Although the preference order of the enhanced elements depends on information needs and system interface, the interviewees held an overall affirmative and positive attitude toward the enhanced bibliographic records, and strongly recommended that libraries should proceed with record enhancement. This study found that the major demands of enhanced bibliographic elements from users are valued in the order of: ”table of contents,” ”content synopsis,” ”excerpted content,” ”book cover,” and ”about the author.” The study suggests libraries to consider the manpower and budget available in order to determine the type of resources needed and the priorities of bibliographic elements when constructing the value-added catalog.
