This essay examines the potential influences of social culture on contemporary women in intimate relationship, growth and self-awareness, and self-identification and workplace from the perspectives of women's self-awareness and self-consciousness. The film Sliding Door departs from the shift in time-space and fate. When examining the issue of love, the audience will observe that women's attachment, expectation, disclosure, self-awareness, and growth in the film are centered on men's ideology. In The war of the Roses, however, it examines the essence of spirit and material of the couple, who loves each other at first but ends up hating each other, resulting in out-focused and doomed marriage. The author would like to analyze how to fathom the self when one is trapped in cultural norms and promises, and in asymmetric relationship of love and marriage in order to discuss the paradox and gender discrimination embedded in the films. This essay falls into three sections: A. the observation and analysis of the process of women’s self-awareness; B. the gender and power of the couple and the examination of their relation to resources; and C. the reflexive thinking of intimate relationship. In sum, the purposes of this research are threefold: 1. rethink the everyday life situations in reality from the films to ponder upon gender relationships and provide students space for reflexive thinking; 2. guide the students to ponder upon gender issues, ideology, and the re-presentation of social construction seen in the films; and 3. inspire the students to think about the images in the films and reality, and the social practice communicated in them.
