Residents are the important stakeholders in tourism development and also one of the important key points for sustainable development of tourism. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the factors that affect residents' attitudes toward tourism development from an offshore island. Residents' attitudes toward tourism development were predicted from tourism impact perceptions, place attachment, and well-being. The study employed questionnaire survey method and collected a total of 410 valid samples from offshore island, Kinmen, residents. The results revealed that the correlations among perceptions of tourism impacts, place attachment, well-being, and attitudes toward tourism development are all positive. Among the correlation coefficients, the highest is the correlation between place attachment and well-being, which is a positive moderately correlation. The lowest is the correlation between tourism impact perceptions and attitude toward tourism development, which is a positive modestly correlation. The economic impact of tourism impact perceptions and place identity of place attachment have significant positive effects on residents' attitudes toward tourism development. The environmental impact of tourism impact perceptions has a significant negative effect on residents’ attitudes toward tourism development. The result showed that the economic impact of tourism impact perceptions played an important predicator of residents' tourism attitudes in the offshore island, Kinmen. At last, the study provided theories and management implications and future study suggestions.
