Strategic Choices: A Composite Model for Logistics Service Providers

The purpose of this paper is to reveal strategic choices of third party logistics service providers in the face of an uncertain external economic environment and in the presence of the firms’ internal resource capabilities. Therefore, a framework is developed using Marketbased view (MBV) and Resource-based view (RBV) theories in a parallel manner and is tested using path analysis. The findings show that both the external economic environment and internal resource capabilities influence strategic choices (operations emphases) of low cost and differentiation. This paper contributes by extending the theories of MBV and RBV to logistics/supply chain management and develops a composite strategy model for research.
