The Effectiveness of Integrating Information Technology to Physical Education on Elementary School Student's Learning

The purposes of this study were to develop a teaching model for integrating information technology to physical education and explore it's effectiveness on students' learning in sport knowledge and sport skills and on sport learning attitudes. An experiment with pretest-posttest nonequivalent-control-group design was conducted. The subjects were 56 fifth graders in two classes drawn from an elementary school in Tainan City. Twenty-eight students in one class was assigned to the experimental group, while 28 students in the another class to the control group. The experimental group received the ”teachig of integrating information technology to physical education”, while the control group received the ”traditional physical education teaching”. The ”Sport Knowledge Test” (SKT), the ”Sport Attitudes Inventory” (SAI), and the ”Sport Skills Rating Scale” (SSRS) were exacuted. The results were as follows:1. When the pretest scores controlled, there was no significant difference in postest scores of SKT between the experimental group and the control group.2. When the pretest scores controlled, the experimental group outperformed the control group in postest scores of some subscales in SAI.3. When the pretest scores controlled , the experimental group outperformed the control group in postest scores of some subscales in SSRS, including the ”Football Skills Rating Scale” and the ”Flying Disc Skills Rating Scale”.4. When the pretest scores controlled, there were no significant differences in postest scores of some subscales in SSRS, including the ”Basketball Skills Rating Scale” and the ”Handball Skills Rating Scale”.
