老年人隨著年齡之增長,身體機能會逐漸衰退老化,容易罹患疾病,而影響其獨立自主的生活能力,致使生活品質降低。「長壽而不健康」不僅影響個人、家庭,也會造成社會負擔。身體活動包括職能性活動、家務活動、休閒活動及運動等,其中日常性家務活動是老人保持體力與活力的重要活動,是最方便、隨時可做,且容易產生累積性的身體活動項目。根據調查,老年人普遍有活動量不足的現象,長期活動量不足會使老化現象愈趨嚴重,若從事適度身體活動可延緩老化、維持獨立照顧自己的能力、降低憂鬱、增加生活滿意度,對於提升生活品質有正面的效果。因此,鼓勵老年人多從事日常性家務活動,增加身體活動量,進而培養規律運動習慣,創造優質生活品質。
