Incorporating Online Social Media into College Courses to Enhance Students' Learning Intention and Satisfaction

摘要

The use of social media services has become an integral part of our daily life, serving various purposes such as sharing information and interacting with friends, and learning. However, many believe that excessive use of social media may have a negative effect on students' learning, as students can be easily distracted by the massive amount of information popping up from social media updates. Therefore, how to capitalize on the popularity of social media among college students to the benefit of learning has become a challenge that many teachers face in today's classroom. To address this need, this study seeks to incorporate social media (Facebook) into a college course to promote students' learning intentions and satisfaction. This quantitative study devices questionnaires to collect students' opinions with respect to their experience using social media as part of their course work over a period of one semester. Keller's ARCS model is employed as the research framework for questionnaire design. Analytical results indicate that the frequency of social media use has a positive impact on learning intention, which in turn positively influences learning satisfaction.
