With the rapid development in computer graphics, visual communication design has gone through revolutionary changes. Now, visual communication design has entered into a new era, and new curriculums about digital multimedia design have been offered in related fields. Based on literature reviews and analysis of curriculums, this research tries to find out how digital media design has been taught in universities and technology institutes. The aim of this research is to provide suggestions as to how curriculums could be designed in the future. 1. Material collected from eight local university departments relevant to visual communication design shows all the departments offer between 18 and 32 credits of relevant courses. About 20 course credits are offered in five of them. Required technical courses decreased in proportion as students moved up. Although elective courses are offered at every level, the number of courses increases as students move 10 higher level. However, the third year students are provided with most elective courses. 2. Material collected from abroad shows that most universities required freshman and sophomore students to complete foundational courses. The research shows that it is an inevitable trend for departments of digital multimedia and visual communication design to offer digital imaging or photomedia courses.
