Channels of Choosing a Hospital and Decisions by Graduates of Nursing Department of College

Purpose: Many hospitals recruited nurses by various channels. Whether did these hospitals know the channels of choosing a hospital by graduates of nursing department of college when recruit? Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the preferred channels of choosing a hospital and decisions by those graduates. Methods: The subjects were graduates of nursing department of colleges in central Taiwan. The questionnaires were issued to the subjects and 307 were valid. Statistical methods included frequency and percentage, sorting and descriptive statistics, and chi-square analysis. Results: After graduation, the choice of most graduates is to work at a hospital or a clinic, and the second choice is to get a higher degree. 47.9% of junior college students of five-year program chose to get a higher degree, and 45.5% chose to work at a hospital or a clinic. The channels most often used by graduates are campus recruiting and job bank. The channel of recommendation by relatives and friends is used most by junior college students of five-year program. Conclusion and Suggestions: Committing to provide opportunity to get higher degree of nursing could be of benefit to recruiting. We suggest that hospitals should take the chance of campus recruiting to issue propagandas or to explain the incentives and niches provided by the hospitals, and the job-seekers will be moved by alumni through word-of-mouth marketing.
