The Computer-Assisted Instruction for the Development Abilities of Low-Functioning Preschool Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) has become important and popular approach in education field recently. This study aims to apply the development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to construct the computer multimedia systems, and provide low-functioning preschool children with ASD to improve their motor, social, cognitive, language ability. In order to verify the applicability of the system, this study examined the computer assisted teaching system for special education on-site, and mainly assessed the learning effectiveness and learning preferences. Learning effectiveness is divided into learning difficulty and degrees of completion to evaluate. Teacher helped children with ASD to learn by the use of this system. The results showed that 1.With the aid of special educational teacher, low-functioning preschool children with ASD have less difficulty for language ability, followed by motor ability is the second lowest. 2.With the assistance of special educational teacher, low-functioning preschool children with ASD have the highest completion for motor ability, followed by social skills. 3.This system in the study would increase the learning preferences of low-functioning autistic children, particularly in motor skills and social skills. 4.The effect of system's satisfaction is significant.
