Patellofemoral pain synrdrome (PFPS) or chondromalacia patella syndrome is one of the common causes of knee pain. PFPS affects many running athletes and constitutes nearly 25% of all identified knee injuries. This case is of a 45-year-old woman who often suffered from knee pain after a running race that she participated in 6 years previously. Her pain was relieved after receiving treatment of acupuncture combined with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and low-intensity laser therapy. This case indicates that combined therapy can treat knee pain caused by PFPS. This study aimed to explore the mechanism underlying combined therapy and incorporate the new module into traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture.
