Injecting radiopharmaceuticals is a routine work in nuclear medicine department. Although, syringe shields made of tungsten or lead could be used on syringes as a protective device, but the push cake of syringe is not shielded. We attempted to manufacture a lead alloy cap for covering the push cake of syringe, and measured the dosing rate of with and without the lead alloy cape injection of Tl-201 (88.06 MBq) and Tc-99m (808.08 MBq) at a distance of 1 cm respectively. The result showed that the lead alloy cap could decrease the dosing rate by 97.74% and 98.55% for Tl-201 (88.06 MBq) and Tc- 99m (808.08 MBq), respectively. The lead alloy cap has characteristics of marked radiation protective effect and lower cost, thereby to achieve the principles of ALARA.
