Health-related Physical Fitness Quotients of the Freshmen in Ming Chi University of Technology

The purpose of this study is to discuss the relationship between blood biochemistry and different levels of health-related physical fitness quotients (HPFQ). The subjects included 270 female and 542 male freshmen in Ming Chi University of Techonology. The results of their tests of health-related physical fitness were converted to the HPFQ figures. Accordingly, the subjects were then divided into three groups as low, fair, and high HPFQ on the basis of the total subjects’ mean quotients and standard deviation. Their venous blood was also collected and further analyzed for the characteristics of Blood biochemistry in the level of blood pressure, waist circumference, hemoglobin, SGOT, GPT, creatinine, uric acid and total cholesterol. All the primary data needed to be correlated by SPSS (p<.01). In addition, the one-way ANOVA was used to examine the difference in detection value among groups. The results showed that the proportion of abnormal values were higher in male students than female students in all the items except hemoglobin and total cholesterol. The low HPFQ group had significant higher proportion of abnormality than other groups, despite that systolic blood pressure and creatinine showed abnormal values in high HPFQ group. According to the analysis of blood biochemistry in each group, subjects with low HPFQ showed a more significant difference in the level of diastolic blood pressure, waist circumference, hemoglobin, SGOT, GPT, uric acid and total cholesterol than subjects with fair and/or high HPFQ. It was found that people with better health-related fitness help reduce the rate of health abnormalities, and the values associated with health detection are also significantly better than those with poor health-related fitness.
