A New Bitter Gourd Cultivar, 'Hualien No. 6'
摘要
The bitter gourd 'Hualien No. 6' is a new F1 hybrid cultivar. This novel cultivar shows traits of high growth vigor, early female flowering, high yield and good quality. The parents were domesticated from the Hualien area in 1998 and 2001, respectively. A superior hybrid line, WBP55, with characteristics of breeding objectives has been selected in 2009 after the combining ability test of F1 hybrids, the comparative yield test, characteristics investigation and characteristics test. WBP55 was approved with the plant breeders' rights (PBR) as a new cultivar named 'Hualien No. 6' on Apr. 29 in 2016. The features of 'Hualien No. 6' include monoecious vine with more branches and the pistillate flower blooming from the 16 th node of the main vine. The flowering period lasts for about 45 days in both crops of spring and summer. The fruits of 'Hualien No. 6' are oblong in shape, 202.4 g in weight, green skin with both pearl and slotted papilla.
