An Embedded Platform for Odor Analysis of Chinese Herbal Medicines

The advancement of electronic nose technology for odor detection has led to a need for accurate odor analysis and classification. In this work, an embedded platform is proposed to be integrated with PEN3 electronic nose for more accurate odor detection, analysis and identification of Chinese herbal medicines. The platform is developed based on ARM9 microcontroller and LINUX system to receive smell prints of Chinese herbal medicines from the electronic nose. We implemented an embedded algorithm to analyze, process and reduce the dimension of the odor data and display the results on the LCD screen of the proposed platform. The experimental results show that the platform can analyze and discern different types of Chinese herbal medicines odor and, thereby identify the types of odor.
