After modernity arrived in the West, the people accepted the benefits of modernity, but had no choice to accept the pain brought by modernity. Benjamin described the crisis of modernity as "the fall of the world." He believed that modern people should consider the catastrophic effects of "the fall of the world," and in turn seek the possibility of redemption. This article believes that Yuan Zhesheng's "Hot Springs Bath" not only reveals the modern survival experiences of modern people, but also contains the novelist's thinking about the possibility of religious redemption. Lost pieces of the puzzle are like hopelessness for redemption, just like the modern person's ultimate homelessness. However, the novelist waits for a "messiah salvation" in the meaning of Benjamin, which would arrive at the "moment" of writing when people have permanently lost hope. Therefore, waiting/writing is the only redemption. "Hot Springs Bath" critiques the catastrophic effects brought by modernity, and does not conceal the insistence and pursuit of happiness in the present. In the thinking of Christian/religious salvation, Yuan Zhesheng's eternal true self- compassion- becomes evident.
