This paper is based on Agama Sutras to investigate the samatha and vipasyana techniques taught by Sakyamuni Buddha. In respect of samatha, the Buddha's major teaching is the observation of anapana(in-breath and out-breath). While in respect of vipa'syana, the focus is the observation of aggregates, bases, dependent origination, nutriments, truths, elements and sensation. In the meantime, "sensation" is taken as the key point of whole practice. The practice of samatha and vipasyana is a must for the sravaka and the bodhisattva on the path of enlightenment.
