The calligraphy of the Nestorian Stele in Tang China is excellent for its flowing beauty in brush technique, its elegance in structure and its vividness in style. Based on a precise analysis of three kinds of cracking marks (J1, J2 and J3), the author established a genealogy for the rubbing inscriptions, from which Havret's lithographic version is collected out as one of the best rubbings. The author analyzes Jingjing's taste in literature and art, and points out that the taste of Tang in its Heyday had exerted an edifying influence on Jingjiaobei's aesthetic characteristics. Finally, the author expounds Jingjiaobei's special characteristics in comparison with Wang Xizhi's and early tang calligraphers' works.
