A Profile of Professor YEN Keng-wang

Professor Yen Kwng-Wang who was born 28 January 1916, and deceased 9 October 1996, was one of the most eminent Chinese history scholar in the 20th century. He was a Research Fellow in the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica for 21 years, and Professor of History in The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies. His academic contributions were especially in the fields of historical geography of medieval China and the institutional history of medieval China. His main publications were: (1) History of the Regional and Local Administration in China, Part 1, The Qin and Han Dynasties, (2 vols.). Part 2, The Wei, Zin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, (2 vols.). (2) The Table of the Important Officers in the Shangshu Bureau in Tang China. (4 vols.). (3) The Investigations on the Traffic Routes in Tang China. (5 vols.). Besides, he published two collections of articles, and 43 monographs.
