佛光山佛教藝術理念探析-從太虛大師到星雲大師看近現代佛教藝術的開展

Seeing the Development of Modern Buddhist Arts From Master Taixu to Venerable Master Hsing Yun

摘要


佛教歷來重視藝術的教化功能,並多能運用藝術的各種形式彰顯和傳播佛教義理和精神。佛光山在以文化弘法的宗旨主導下,藝術同樣是重要的弘法媒介,各種藝術形式都已為佛光山應用於弘法利生的事業中。佛光山以藝術弘法,從其源流上追溯,則與太虛大師倡導的人間佛教相似。太虛大師很早就注重佛教藝術,認為要保護佛教藝術,並且提倡以各種藝術形式弘揚佛教。但他提出的很多理念由於時代的機緣不成熟而大多不能實現。然佛光山不斷地革新藝術形式,在建築、音樂和書畫方面都有卓越的成就。最後,嘗試從佛教藝術的變革中反思現代中國藝術理念的取向問題。本文正是試圖從這一理路入手,探討近代以來佛教藝術的開展及其人間佛教的弘化。

Buddhist history has always put emphasis on teaching through the use of arts in different ways to spread Buddhist theories and spirit. While the propagation of culture is one of Fo Guang Shan's main objectives, art is just as important in propagation. The different formats of art have been used to promote the Buddhist teachings and to benefit all beings. Fo Guang Shan uses art to propagate the Buddha's teachings, the cause for that dates back to the Humanistic Buddhism promoted by Master Taixu. Master Taixu has always thought of Buddhist arts as important, the need to protect Buddhist arts, and using different forms of method to propagate the Buddha's teachings. However, at the time, his proposal was not recognized and hence did not come to fruit. Through Fo Guang Shan, the continuous effort to keep innovating new art forms, from architecture, music and books all have outstanding achievements. Lastly, attempting to raise questions about the evolution of Buddhist arts to reflect modern concept of Chinese Arts. This paper will begin with that intention and discuss the current development of Buddhist art and other propagation works of Humanistic Buddhism.
