This essay is aimed to outline and summarize the recent advances in the study of lizards of Taiwan and adjacent regions chiefly by reviewing Lin and Cheng's (1990) book entitled A SNYOPSIS OF LIZARDS OF TAIWAN. Besides a number of typographical errors, several more substantial problems, such as those concerning the nomenclature and classification, are recognized in this publication, and are discussed here. Future objectives to improve the systematics of Taiwanese lizards are also discussed.
