Fides Quaerens Intellectum (Faith Seeking Understanding): Discourse on Truth and a Post-liberal Theological Hermeneutics

並列摘要

Traditionally, theology is understood as "Faith Seeking Understanding" (fides quaerens intellectum). Contemporary hermeneutics has provided an in-depth interpretation of "understanding." For Christians, "understanding" implies "knowing the Truth." But the question is: Is Truth knowable? Or what kind of theological hermeneutics is applicable to the discourse on Truth? From the perspective of post-liberal theology, this article seeks to explain that Christianity's discourse on Truth can be discussed from three aspects: analogia fidei, regelae fidei, and sensus fidei. Together, they constitute a compatible theological hermeneutics. This article is grounded in George Lindbeck's post-liberal theology, supplementing it with the hermeneutical perspectives of Rudolf Bultmann, Hans-Georg Gadamer, and Johan Huizinga, with which to build a framework for a post-liberal theological hermeneutics.
