An Exploratior of Rural Ministry in Taiwan-A Case Study of Kaupi Church

並列摘要

Village churches typically face greater challenges and greater onslaughts than urban churches in Taiwan's rapidly changing social environment. Such harsh realities mean that churches must quickly respond to all sorts of sudden situations by starting new ministries that can bring about new opportunities to share the Gospel. This report uses Kaupi Church as a model, focusing on its ministries over the years. It pays particular emphasis to how these ministries have helped the church reach out to the community, step out and become one with the community, and prompt church members to exercise their faith through involvement. Examples include setting up various "Community Care Bases" and promoting the "Siraya Cultural Hill Community Cooperative". The latter not only energized local tourism and various local industries, but also helped local residents understand their homeland more deeply and identify more closely with it. Besides promoting ministries, renewing the spiritual mindset of church members is another crucial factor that explains rapid changes in rural churches. To help church members in their spirituality, Kaupi Church and other churches in Xinhua District invited a faculty from Tainan Theological College and Seminary to teach discipleship training classes and dialogue-based Bible study classes. The churches' intentions were to increase their members' love and knowledge of the Bible. They were very keen on solidifying their members' rootedness to the land while promoting "God's mission", and "contextual theology". The goal of these churches was to encourage their members to experience "liberating service" through revitalizing the Siraya culture, the name-rectification movement, community reconstruction, and team service. All of these activities helped Christianity become more renowned in the community and increased the church's appeal and influence in the community. They also helped churches and local organizations to serve their purpose and they function as parts of Kaupi Church's grand vision.
