Exploring the In-depth Level of "Zi Hui Taiwan" (字繪台灣) from Space Experience

"Zi Hui Taiwan "(字繪台灣), a group of artist adopted the painting techniques of "words in pictures" and "pictures in words" to draw Taiwan. However, because these artists came from varying backgrounds (e.g., a Ph.D.student who has lived in Taiwan since birth, a Chinese student who has travelled to and lived in Taiwan, and a local student of China), where some of them have never been to Taiwan, their impressions of living in Taiwan were different, resulting in the creation of dissimilar visual images of Taiwan. Most of the aforementioned artists have a background in modern art education and training, enabling them to experience Eastern and Western art ideas, techniques, and training at the same time and apply them to pictures during the process of painting. However, because of their dissimilar life experiences in relation to Taiwan, how they interpreted the content of their paintings differed. Factors that contributed to the differences between the pictures painted included the artists' different skills, methods of presentation, and understanding of Taiwan (e.g., some have lived Taiwan for a long time, some were short-term tourists, and some have only learned about Taiwan through books or computers). The artists' dissimilar visual and spatial experiences influenced how they painted and transformed space into pictures. Therefore, in this study, whether painters' varying life experiences resulted in paintings of varying "depths" was investigated. Aspects such as the artists' knowledge of Taiwan, methods of presentation, and painting-related training were assessed, and data obtained through questionnaire survey were analyzed to gain insight into the artists' backgrounds and thought processes when painting. Next, paintings created by artists who lived in Taiwan were compared with those created by artists who did not live in Taiwan to identify differences.
