The objectives of this paper are: (1) to evaluate the effect of various renewable energy promotion schemes on electricity price as well as prices and output growth by sector during 2003-2020; and (2) to conduct a social cost-benefit analysis on the above renewable energy promotion schemes. Policy recommendations will be drawn from the findings. For this policy evaluation, a Dynamic General Equilibrium Model of Taiwan (DGEMT) is employed. Our conclusions are as follows: The two renewable energy promotion schemes, i.e., the original scheme proposed by the Energy Commission and its slightly modified version, constitute the best option for adoption by the government. They are likely to have the minimum impact on electricity price as well as prices and output growth by sector, while offering the highest net social benefit among the various renewable energy promotion schemes.
