1958年成立的私立中國醫藥學院開啟了臺灣中醫高等教育的發展,該校整合二十世紀前葉以來中國大陸中醫藥界面對西方醫學衝擊與挑戰之經驗,發展出中西醫學兼修的教育模式,希望培育融貫中西醫學的人才。而相近時空下,自日治時期開始逐漸發展出中西醫一元化理念的杜聰明,也嘗試於官方西醫教育系統中導入部份的中醫藥課程。為瞭解杜聰明對臺灣中醫高等教育的影響,本研究彙整與分析杜聰明對中醫藥教育的看法,並比對當代臺灣中醫藥界的檔案文獻,研究結果顯示:杜聰明的中西醫一元化理念在教育層面具有「於正規醫學教育體系內且比重逐漸增加的中醫藥課程」與「重視畢業後與研究所的中醫藥教育」之特點,並為臺灣中醫高等教育提供許多實質的建議及行動支持。其影響不僅深化與延續了臺灣中醫高等教育訴求融合中西醫學的理念,且其推展「中西醫一元化」於醫學教育的理念與經驗,在全球興起整合醫學發展的現今,仍有作為國內外進行相關教育規劃參考的價值。
The private "China Medical College" was established since 1958, which means the beginning of higher education of Chinese Medicine in Taiwan. This school was built based on the experiences in the conflict and integration of Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine in the early 20^(th) centery, therefore it developed an educational model of integrated Chinese and Western Medicine and cultivated many professional talents. In the same time, Professor Tsung-Ming Tu, who had concepts of integrated Chinese and Western Medicine since the period Japanese governance of Taiwan, also tried to introduce Chinese Medicine courses partially in the official medical education system. In this research, we collected and analyzed literatures of Tsung-Ming Tu and contemporary Chinese Medicine community in Taiwan. We found Tsung-Ming Tu's main philosophies of integrated Chinese and Western Medicine education, which were "building curriculums of Chinese Medicine in Western medical education system" and "emphasizing Chinese Medicine education in graduate schools". These concepts provided lots of foresighted advises and supports to continue integrated Chinese and Western Medicine education in the higher education of Chinese Medicine. Due to his efforts, the seeds of integrated Chinese and Western Medicine were sowed in the Chinese Medicine higher education system in Taiwan eventually. This study showed the characteristics of Chinese Medicine higher education in Taiwan, but also revealed that whether Western Medicine or Chinese Medicine, as long as the target is "integrated Chinese and Western medicine ", the result of ideal educational model could be similar. As the rising of Integrated Medicine, Tsung-Ming Tu's concepts and experiences in the higher education of Chinese Medicine and integrated Chinese and Western Medicine can serve as a reference of the reformation of worldwide and national medical education.
