19世紀以降,中國長期處於內憂外患中,時局動盪,民不聊生。許多中國人遠赴南洋另覓生機,終而定居海外。海外華人,特別是馬來西亞華人,從不忘自身的語言、文化、信仰、漢傳佛教由斯因緣在馬來西亞紮根、發展。民國初期,有太虛大師首倡人生佛教、人間佛教等理念以改革傳統佛教之陋弊,影響所及,繼而有印順、星雲、聖嚴、證嚴等法師對人間佛教理念而發揚。但人間佛教理念的弘揚,在馬來西亞並不顯著。星雲大師與馬來西亞佛教有深厚因緣,對馬來西亞佛教發展影響深遠。60年代,大師之文字弘揚佛法,其著述深受馬來西亞佛教信眾所喜愛;80年代,其所提倡的人間佛教理念對馬來西亞佛教青年總會多所啟發,奠定馬佛青的初期發展;90年代,大師進行全國巡迴弘法,在馬來西亞深耕其人間佛教理念;至因緣成熟,佛光山在馬來西亞開始創建道場及成立佛光協會,正式展開其人間佛教理念下的四大佛教事業,即:以教育培養人才、以文化宏揚佛法、以共修淨化人心、以慈善福利社會。本文主要探討星雲大師與馬來西亞佛教的殊勝因緣,進而敘述星雲大師人間佛教理念在馬來西亞的推展及實踐過程,終而歸納出星雲大師人間佛教理念對馬來西亞社會所產生的影響力。
Master Hsing Yun has made great contributions to the development of Buddhism in Malaysia. In fact, he has great influences towards the development of Buddhism in Malaysia. In 1960s Master Hsing Yun's literary works were well-received by Buddhists in Malaysia. In 1980s, his vision on Humanistic Buddhism had inspired the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia and boosted the development of Buddhism among the youths in Malaysia. Master Hsing Yun started his Dhamma preaching about the Humanistic Buddhist throughout the countries in 1990s. The Fo Guang Shan Temple was established in Malaysia to spread the teaching of Humanistic Buddhism with objectives: To foster talent through education; to propagate Buddhist teaching through cultural activities; to purify human hearts and minds through Buddhist practice and to benefit society through charitable programs. This paper mainly focuses on Master Hsing Yun's special relationship with Buddhism in Malaysia. His efforts to preach the vision of Humanistic have brought great influences to the development of Buddhism in Malaysia. In conclusion, the vision of Humanistic Buddhism has brought great impacts on the society in Malaysia.
