The aim of this thesis is to study a set of nanostructured pattern with CdSe nanoparticles. The techniques used in our study are electron beam lithography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro photoluminescence. The CdSe nanoparticles have different photoluminescence with different sizes. We use the concept to photonic crystals to design nanostructured semiconductors, fabricate the pattern by electron beam lithography, and observe the structure by scanning electron microscopy as well as study optical properties by micro photoluminescence. We have observed experimentally that patterned nanostructures of CdSe nanoparticles can be used to control the photoluminescence enhancement. When the nanostructure matches the photonic crystals band gap with the emitted photon energy from semiconductor quantum dots, we can obtain the maximum optical enhancement.
