The article studies how leaders of the Chinese mission in Malaysia respond to the “China Dream” and the associated wish for reviving Chinese nationality in the nascent discursive construction of the China Dream. The research concludes that an emerging string of post-Chineseness characterizes the changing identity strategies. Post-Chineseness attends to the incurring of shared cultural resources between different Chinese groups that affects representation of Chineseness, political participation in local politics and the understanding of China rising amongst the Chinese population everywhere. This cultural sensibility in the strategic use of shared cultural resource is not present in the more familiar concepts such as hybridity and multiculturalism, which primarily focus on the construction of difference.
