Abstract In September 21, 1999, a huge earthquake happened in middle of Taiwan which was a horrible disaster. Thereafter, people start paying more attention on the growth of study and research on seismic isolation and energy dissipation. Therefore, the technology of preventing earthquake is getting more mature in Taiwan. As the technology grows, the seismic isolated buidings are used more and more broadly, however, the associated problems are appearing one after another. To economize the pre-saved space for the effective use of isolators, we raise the isolators to the higher layers from the traditional base.We can foresee that there will be more and more of this kind of buildings which the isolators are heightened. Basing on the equivalent static analysis procedures, this master’s thesis provided examples in detail and discuss whether or not this new way to build can maintain the advantage against earthquake as the traditionl base isolated buildings. On the other hand, in order to understand the feasibility of the equivalent static analysis procedures used in the report, Dynamic analysis procedures are used to verify and to compare. To improve the disadvantages of seismic isolated buildings which the displacement and energy dissipation of the building are not as we expected when the medium and small earthquake comes, finally, we applied viscous damper, to performed the better control of preventing earthquake.
