In this study the NSK dual input wheel motors are used as a benchmark to perform topology analysis and speed ratio analysis. The design requirements and limitations are concluded to meet the topology characteristics. Based on Yan's creative mechanism design methodology, a total of 34 new designs are synthesized after the process of generalization, number synthesis, specialization and particularization. One-way clutches are integrated into the dual-input wheel motor to replace the brake. The operation modes of the NSK motor, including M1 mode and Combine mode in the original design are obtained. Speed ratio, torque, and power flow of each types is analyzed. In addition, the characteristics whether the motor is independently input or not are listed for designers to choose for actual use.
