Systems of extended cavity diode laser (ECDL) have been extensively adopted in modern atomic experiments, such as laser cooling and Bose-Einstein condensation[1]. In this thesis we report a volume holographic grating (VHG) ECDL, built on a commercial one-inch mirror mount. This system is simple to build, and the parts are easily accessible commercially. Our VHG laser was frequency stabilized to a D2 transition of Rb-87 atoms for 5 hours, and the measured linewidth was 240 KHz in 100 sec.
