RFID technology has long been developed in Taiwan and applied to personal services, such as student ID cards and EasyCard cards to make the “smart” lifestyle a reality. The mission of this team is to monitor the activity levels of students through the Application of RFID as part of the Campus Safety Monitoring Project of the Ministry of Education. Although speed and convenience are the causes of technological advancement driving rapid social changes, diseases of civilization arise from the inertia that results from over-dependency on the convenience brought by modern technologies. There is no direct scientific evidence indicating the correlation between the lack of activity and physical weakness, discomfort and even obesity in students; furthermore, most past studies on activity levels were questionnaire-focused, which are controversial as a result of the cognitive difference between the surveyor and respondent, memory limits and social expectations. This team has developed a device integrating the tri-axis accelerometer and RFID technology to measure the accumulative daily activity index of subjects who carry the device with them. A database was established to collect these daily activity results to facilitate further analysis in order to investigate the correlations between activity, health and obesity. On the other hand, the online search system allows teachers and parents to search the related data in order to understand the present condition of students.
